Book Reviews

At Peritus we have had a book club since 2017. It has led to great ideas on how to improve our investment and decision-making processes, while also very enjoyable as we learn together.

Below is one of the books that we have enjoyed and appreciated in recent years. We will continue to add new books and we would love to hear any recommendations you may have.

A Guide to the Professional Interview by Geir-Egil Løken, Svein Tore Bergestuen and Asbjørn Rachlew

The book offered a practical perspective on how to ask better questions and gather more reliable information. It draws on research and experience from investigative interviewing within the Norwegian police.

This is directly relevant to our roles as Investment Consultants, where “the quality of the question will always have a profound impact on the quality of the answer.”

The sections on preparation, active listening and interview structure were particularly useful. They showed that good interviews require clear objectives and enough space for people to explain their thinking.

The book led to thoughtful discussions on how we conduct manager meetings, particularly the importance of using short, neutral prompts, avoiding leading questions and reflecting on the discussion afterwards.
